Saturday, May 20, 2017
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Simsbury Public Library
725 Hopmeadow St.
Simsbury, CT 06070

Director of Simsbury Free Bike and bicycle enthusiast Larry Linonis and practicing geologist Mark Winbourne will give a short lecture on the geology of Simsbury (1:00-2:00 pm) followed by a ‘geology bike ride” through Simsbury’s fascinating geological landscape (2:00-4:00 pm). Points of interest are the Stratton Brook aquifer, Western and Eastern Highlands, Great Pond, the Barn Door Hills region, and the Farmington River flood plain. Ride options include both a seven and fourteen mile loop. The ride will be as flat as possible and at a casual pace. The ride leaders will have tools and repair supplies. Families with children are encouraged to attend. Adult bikes are available at Fitzgerald’s Market across from the library or at the Simsbury Free Bike shop (morning of ride). Call ahead to reserve a bike at 860-658-1110.

Registration for this program is suggested at 860-658-7663 or www.simsburylibrary.info. The bike ride will be held unless there are heavy downpours. Contact the library if weather is questionable.
