Former Simsbury resident, Culver Modisette, will talk about his book Honored Enemy. Set in the Great Southwest in the late 1800s, it focuses on the tense relationship between the Comanche, Kiowa and Cheyenne tribes and their adversaries, the U.S. Calvary. Colonel Ranald Mackenzie’s Fourth Cavalry was pitted against Comanche war chief, Quanah Parker, and his Indian allies in a struggle for dominance in Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma, as the whites recklessly squandered the vast buffalo herds and usurped tribal lands. Thoroughly researched and liberally illustrated by historic photographs, this book will give pause to all Americans young and old. The author, the current president of the Northern Connecticut Land Trust and a lacrosse coach, retired as a tree farmer and Labrador breeder in Connecticut after a colorful career that included advertising/PR and ecology sports. His experiences have deepened his admiration of all native people. For more information or to pre-register: 860-658-7663 or www.simsburylibrary.info. Free and open to all.
