Simsbury Farms, 100 Old Farms Rd, Simsbury, CT 06070
August 6, 2011
On August 6 at 9 a.m. to noon at the Simsbury Farms Playground Pavilion, 100 Old Farms Road, will be the fourth annual 2011 Raksha Walk — Shreya Dixit Memorial Foundation-Distraction Free Driving Walk.
Shreya Rekha Dixit, of Eden Prairie, MN, who spent time in Simsbury as well, was fatally injured in an accident riding a car to spend the weekend with her family in Minnesota.
On this day, we will take the time to remember those hundreds of lives that were lost in moments of distraction on the road. We will bear in mind the tens of thousands who were injured in crashes during the past year. And we will have the opportunity to examine our own driving habits and make a promise to protect each other on the road through our own mindful driving.
On this day, we will walk.
Raksha Bandhan is PROMISE TO PROTECT
It is a festival that commemorates centuries old tradition in which a sister ties a ceremonial band on her brother’s wrist and prays for his protection and safety. The brother reciprocates with a pledge to be there for her whenever she needs him. A simple band therefore binds brothers and sisters in an inseparable bond.
After the walk, we will all have the chance to tie our own ceremonial band on those around us with a promise to protect each other by keeping our eyes and mind on the road while driving.
To register, go here. An $11 donation per walker is requested.
