This month’s selection for the Farmington Valley N.A.M.I. Book Group is Comfortably Numb: How Psychiatry is Medicating a Nation by Charles Barber. In this book the author discusses what he sees as the overuse of antidepressant medications in the U.S., examines the factors that have led to such widespread acceptance of psychiatric medications in a relatively short period of time, and considers the effects of this disturbing phenomenon on Americans and American culture. The National Alliance on Mental Health (N.A.M.I.) book group’s aim is to remove the stigma of mental illness through open discussion.
